A Filipino seafarer was found dead onboard the Malta flagged MV Elbella at Marsaxlokk Freeport in Malta last Sunday night (17th of May). The seafarer was found in a pool of blood with several stab wounds and two kitchen knives near his corpse.

IMO Adopts Polar Code Enviro Provisions

Black Sea MoU CIC on STCW Hours of Rest
From 1st September 2014 to 30th November 2014, the BS MOU carried out a Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on STCW Hours of Rest throughout the region. This campaign involved all member States of the BS MOU and was conducted in conjunction with the Tokyo MOU and Paris MOU. The Paris MOU Guidelines and Questionnaire were utilized.
Turkish Cargo Ship Sinks Near Port of Ravenna, Italy
On 28/12/2014 at 0800 GMT, a Turkish ship (Gokbel), having 11 seafarers as crew, collided with a Belize flag vessel and sank. The collision occurred due to poor visibility just a mile from the Italian Adriatic port of Ravenna.
Norman Atlantic in Fire North of Kerkyra, Greece
A fire broke out onboard the Ro-Ro passenger ship Norman Atlantic during early morning hours (0400-0600 Greece local time), while the vessel was north of Kerkyra, Greece close to Othonoi island. Onboard the vessel there are approximately 480 passengers. The vessel had departed from Igoumenista, Greece and was heading to Ancona, Italy.
