Collision Between Tanker and Containership – Investigation Report

This incident investigation report refers to the collision between the tanker the British Cygnet and the Containership Vera. On the morning of the 2nd of December the oil tanker British Cygnet was proceeding in ballast on passage from Rotterdam to Fredericia in Denmark to load crude oil. The containership Vera on the morning of the 2nd of December the was on passage from Arhus to Bremerhaven engaged on a container feeder service. At 1130 UTC both vessels entered the buoyed channel north of Fynshoved. The British Cygnet was southbound and the Vera northbound. At 1138 UTC both vessels collided in the channel. Fortunately there were no injuries and no pollution as a result of this incident.

MOL Comfort Containership Sinks After Breaking in Two

It has been reported by the Indian Coast Guard and is widely spread in the media that MOL Comfort broke in two and sank in Arabian sea on 17 June 2013. The vessel was manned with 26 crewmembers who have been rescued by nearby vessels and are well in their health. The Bahamas flagged containership MOL Confort had a DWT of 90613 MT and a capacity of 8100 TEU.

Containership Collision With Bridge – Investigation Report

On 20.00 on 2 June 2010, the Finnish dry cargo vessel NAJADEN and the car carrier PALMELA informed to the VMC-ZWN Traffic Control Centre in southwestern Holland controlling the Caland Bridge that they needed the bridge to be opened so that they could sail from the Brittanniehaven towards the Caland Canal. The PALMELA reported first, and after her the NAJADEN. The NAJADEN told that she wanted to use the same bridge opening as the PALMELA.

Cargo Ship Sinks after Colliding with Containership Southwest of Sapientza Island Greece

Cook islands flagged cargo ship Piri Reis, loaded with a cargo of fertilizer, sunk southwest of Sapientza Island in Greece (sea depth at the point of the accident is approximately 2.5 km) after colliding with Antigua & Barbuda flagged containership Consouth. The containership Consouth was not carrying cargo during the collision. The causes of the accident are still unknown.

Container Ship Capsizes Northeast of Longkou in Shandong Province East China

According to Shangdong province authorities the containership Guangyangxingang sank off the Chinese coast last Monday, due to bad weather and strong winds. One of the crew members has been rescued by a helicopter.

The problem of hazardous chemicals in shipping containers has become a topic of major concern over the last 10 years. The combination of sealed containers and long journey times means that hazardous chemicals can build to a level that would never normally be encountered in domestic or industrial settings. The problem is exacerbated by the massive variety in chemicals involved, the origin of many containers in countries with less strict health and safety controls, and the often poor documentation accompanying the containers.

Fatal Fall Overboard on Ice Covered Water – Investigation Report

On 12 Feb 2009 at 18:30 OOCL Nevskiy berthed at Mussalo Harbour, Port of Kotka. The unloading of its containers began right away. After the incoming containers destined for Kotka
were unloaded, the loading of outgoing containers began at 21:30. The ship’s deck department secured the loaded containers with lashing wires. A seaman working under the  supervision of the boatswain was lashing a container on the port side of cargo hatch number 2 when he slipped and fell over the rail. The sea was covered with ice and he was almost instantly killed.
