A Bahamian flagged tanker ran aground on a shoal to the east of Aegna island at 6:55 on Monday morning. According to officials there is no threat of pollution or danger to the 24-member crew of the Kyeema Spirit, which was not carrying cargo. The tanker had been leaking bilge water, but the leakage has now been stopped.
Crew Members Missing After Ship Collision in Japan
The Japanese Coast Guard is searching for 13 crew members which went missing from a fishing boat after it collided with a larger cargo ship in Japan’s Pacific Ocean. The 13 missing members of the fishing boat were part of a 22-man crew on board the 119-ton Horiei Maru. The fishing boat collided with the 25,000-ton Nikkei Tiger about 900 kilometres east of Sendai at 2.30am last Sunday morning.
Cargo Ship Run Aground on its Maiden Voyage
A cargo ship has run aground on its maiden voyage from Southampton to the Channel Islands. The Huelin Dispatch was loaded with containers from Southampton to the Channel Islands. The vessel hit a rock off the coast of Alderney on last Friday. The vessel issued a distress call after running aground on an isolated rock one and a half miles south-west of Alderney. All crew and cargo are safe.
Fire Breaks Out on MV Amsterdam Bridge off Mumbai Coast
A major ship fire erupted on the MV Amsterdam Bridge over the weekend off the coast of Mumbai. The blaze has fortunately been contained and cooling operations are ongoing aboard the Colombo-bound merchant vessel. The entire 20-man crew is safe. Indian Coast Guard officials confirm that the flames are contained, but not yet fully extinguished. Thick smoke continues to rise from the vessel and fire-fighting is underway.
Carrier Collision Causes Oil Spill in Singapore Temasek Fairway
60 metric tonnes of bunker fuel were spilled on Singapore’s Temasek Fairway. According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the agency received a report at about 1400hrs on 9 September (Singapore time) that a Hong Kong-registered bulk carrier “Sunny Horizon”, collided with the “DL Salvia”, a Korean-registered Liquefied Petroleum Gas carrier.
MV Thermopylae Sierra Sinks in Sri Lanka
A Cyprus flagged vessel which remained in Sri Lankan waters since 2009 following a court order which prevented it from leaving, sank on Thursday raising concerns of environmental impact. MV Thermopylae Sierra sank at sea close to the shores of Panadura, just outside the capital, even as the court case over the vessel continued in Sri Lanka.
Tanker Bunga Alpinia Inferno
A 38,000 dwt chemical tanker ‘Bunga Alpinia’ was almost destroyed by fire and explosions yesterday morning, while loading methanol at Labuan. It is believed that the accident was caused by lightning, due to heavy rain during the loading procedures, which resulted in several explosions.
MSC Flaminia Fire
At 10:07 July 14 2012 boxship MSC Flaminia reported that the crew on board had abandoned the vessel, after an explosion and the fire that broke out in one of the cargo holds. Merchant vessels in the area convened to the vessel’s position to provide assistance to MSC Flaminia. The incident took place about 1,000 miles from land mid way between the UK and Canada.
Fatal Injury During Cargo Operations Due to Crewman Fall – Investigation Report
At 1438 (UTC+1) on 27 October 2011, an able seaman (AB) on board the UK registered cargo vessel Scot Pioneer fell into a void space at the forward end of the ship’s cargo hold. The vessel was loading cargo at Belview Port. Although paramedics treated the AB at the scene, he died from his injuries a short while later.
