Cargo Ship Collision with Fishing Vessel in Philippines

The MV Rainbow Joy, a South Korean-registered general cargo ship, rammed a fishing boat off Ligid Island in Davao City on Saturday, causing the smaller vessel to sink instantly. All 11 crew members of the fishing boat Raisa survived the accident.

Two Ships Grounded Due to Storm in Spain

Due to last week heavy storm that took place in Spain the 118 meter long containtership Celia and the 113 meter cargo ship BSLE Sunrise went aground near Valencia, Spain. Both vessels had been at anchor when a strong storm struck causing the anchors to drag until both ships were on the beach.

Cargo Ship Run Aground on its Maiden Voyage

A cargo ship has run aground on its maiden voyage from Southampton to the Channel Islands. The Huelin Dispatch was loaded with containers from Southampton to the Channel Islands.  The vessel hit a rock off the coast of Alderney on last Friday. The vessel issued a distress call after running aground on an isolated rock one and a half miles south-west of Alderney.  All crew and cargo are safe.

U.S. Cargo Ship Captain Held by Venezuela Authorities

Venezuelan authorities have arrested the American captain of a U.S.-flagged cargo ship after finding three rifles on board, a U.S. Embassy official said. The other 14 crew members, also Americans, were initially confined to the ship and their movements have since been restricted by Venezuelan authorities, the official added.
