100 Billion Cubic Meters of Gas via Blue Stream to Turkey

Yesterday at 11:00 am Moscow time the Blue Stream gas pipeline supplied its 100th billion cubic meter of Russian natural gas to Turkey. In 2013 gas supplies via Blue Stream had stood at 13.7 billion cubic meters of gas accounting for over a half of the total gas volume (26.7 billion cubic meters) exported by Gazprom to Turkey in 2013.

The following information is an extract from PEW recommendations on Arctic Oil Spill Prevention, Response, and Safety in the U.S. Arctic Ocean published during September 2013. The design of the drilling rig, the blowout preventer, or BOP, and cementing practices are all essential to safe drilling operations and accident prevention. Drilling rigs must be designed and operated to meet the Arctic conditions they will encounter. Due to the remote nature of Arctic drilling operations, rigs must be self-sufficient and carry a minimum level of well control materials such as drilling mud, cement, and extra fuel.

Grounding of Oil Tanker Due to Strong Winds at Syros, Greece

A tanker scheduled for Dry Docking in Neorion Shipyards was grounded in the early morning hours of Friday (03:15 LT) in the maritime region of Azolimnos Syros. The Liberian flagged Oil Tanker “ALIAKMON” (L=213,4m / B=32,29m / GRT=35711 t / DWT=61284t) was moored waiting to get in the drydock. Because of the strong winds in the area it was led astray and “stuck” on the rocks.

Once exploration drilling is complete and sufficient oil and/or gas resources are found to support year-round production, a more permanent offshore production facility may be installed with a pipeline connecting it to shore. Offshore production facilities typically include development drilling operations, wellheads, processing facilities, storage, and living quarters.

Panama Flag Cargo Ship Sinks After Running Into Seawall Off South Korea

Yesterday at 2130 hours local time a panama flag cargo ship, belonging to China’s Lishen International Shipping Group Corporation, with a crew of 19 sank in South Korea’s southeast Pohang harbor during a storm. The Chinese Consulate General in Busan reported that up until now 9 people have been reported dead, 8 have been rescued and 2 are missing. 18 of the crew were Chinese and 1 Vietnamese. The South Korea’s coast guard conducts the rescue operation.
