On last September EMSA released a report on the Delivery of Ship-generated Waste and Cargo Residues to Port Reception Facilities in EU Ports. The objectives of the study were to provide EMSA with waste volume fact sheets for identified ports, todescribe the applied waste handling system in mentioned ports and to analyse factors influencing the ship-waste delivery behaviour of ships.

Cargo Ship Collision with Fishing Vessel in Philippines
The MV Rainbow Joy, a South Korean-registered general cargo ship, rammed a fishing boat off Ligid Island in Davao City on Saturday, causing the smaller vessel to sink instantly. All 11 crew members of the fishing boat Raisa survived the accident.
Fire Explosion in Beached Tanker in Alang
An explosion and subsequent fire on-board a beached tanker at the Alang-Sosiya Ship Recycling Yard in India killed five workers and severely injured two others on Saturday, according to Indian officials. The fire broke out at 12.45 pm on the 163-metre-long MT Union Brave, a tank-ship purchased recently by Bhavnagar-based Kiran Ship Breaking Co. for recycling. The vessel was beached at plot 82.

The UK P&I released a bulletin today regarding a vessel which was detained for breaching the North Sea SECA regulations despite receiving bunkers which appeared, according to the bunker delivery note, of being within the required limits.
EU Snoops Into Greek Shipping Tax System
According to Greek press as German shippers are loosing market share, a driven request of the European Commission is meddling with the Greek shipping tax system. The European Commission asked Greece to clarify the workings of the tax system for its key shipping industry which is run by some of the wealthiest people in the bailed-out country. “The commission is currently looking at the tonnage tax and has asked for details from Greece,” the office of European Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said. Greece has until October 30 to reply.
Arctic Environmental Report on Shipping Exploitation
Last week Transport & Environment NGO released a report highlighting environmental threats from increased shipping activities in the Arctic. As the decline of Arctic sea-ice continues, the prospect of an ice-free Arctic ocean in the near future draws closer. Arctic melting is seen by industry and some governments as an opportunity to develop human and exploitative activities in the region (oil and gas production, mining, shipping, tourism). But while Arctic melting is surely an effect of climate change, it is imperative that it does not become another cause of climate change. This vicious circle threating the Arctic and the global ecosystems needs to be broken.
MHI Air Lubrication System Installed on Ferry
