Wärtsilä Ship Design has developed a double hull, single screw crude oil tanker featuring a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) optimised hull to provide less resistance with higher propulsion efficiency. The minimum time at the terminals is ensured by the high loading/discharge rate. The CFD optimisation of the hull form has carefully considered the flow lines and pressure distribution along the hull, while the cylindrical bow accommodates a range of operational draughts even in rough weather conditions.
Rolls-Royce Wave Piercing Vessel Named Ship of the Year
Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has today won a prestigious ‘Ship of the Year’ industry award for its new wave piercing ship design. The Far Solitaire, a UT 754 WP platform supply vessel for the offshore oil and gas industry, has been named Skipsrevyen ‘Ship of the Year’ at the SMM marine industry trade show in Hamburg, Germany.
New Hull Design for Fuel Economy on Ultra Large Container Ships
The design has been optimized for an operating profile along the Far East to Europe trade route involving nine speed and draught combinations. The installed propulsive power could be reduced by about 16 per cent compared to the initial hullform optimized for one draft & speed condition. The first of the new 13,800 TEU ships is under construction at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and will be delivered next year.
