Port of Rosario, Argentina’s largest port for exporting grain might remain blocked for almost a week due to the grounding of a Bulk Carrier in the main channel of Parana River. The Cyprus flagged MV Paraskevi remains grounded there since last Tuesday 11 March.
Workers are on standby, waiting permission from officials, in order to commence the topping off of MV Paraskevi. The grounded vessels blocks over 18 other vessel from entry or leaving of the Rosario port.
This translates to a daily cost of 25000 USD for each vessel. According to port authorities the longer the vesssel remains there the greater the risk of creating a bottleneck in the port due to the fact that the port will begin receiving deliveries of corn, soybeans etc from the 2013-2014 season at the end of March.
Bulk carrier Paraskevi, IMO 9254111 was loaded with 40000 tons of soybeans and was heading for France.
