Drunken Master Causes Allision

The cargo ship MV Warnow Jupiter, being enroute Rotterdam-Wismar, allided with the gate of the new Northern Lock of the Kiel Canal in Brundsbüttel in the night of Nov 21, 2012 short past midnight. The police breathalyzed the captain who was found to be intoxicated with 1,05 per mille.

The ship with the canal pilot as master was taken in tow by the tugs “Wolf” and “Bugsier 15” at 2.30 a.m. and moored at the Navy Pilings South in the canal port of Brunsbüttel for further investigations. The captain had to pay a safety fine of 2000 Euro.

There is no report on damages suffered either by the Lock or by the vessel. Incident was somehow resolved, vessel resumed voyage the same day, and as of morning Nov 22 was already in Baltic sea after transiting Kiel canal.
